8th Math Curriculum

In 8th grade students take Algebra I. This serves as an excellent preparation for high school. As students enter as freshmen many of them move on to Geometry or Algebra II (depending on the high school they attend) while others take the opportunity to ease into high school and retake Algebra I. Specifically Algebra I focuses on equations, inequalities, graphing, systems of equations, polynomials, and quadratic functions. The textbook is published by Prentice Hall and uses the following scope and sequence:

Chapter 1 – Tools of Algebra

Chapter 2 – Solving Equations

Chapter 3 – Solving Inequalities

Chapter 4 – Solving & Applying Proportions

Chater 5  – Graphing & Functions

Chapter 6 – Linear Equations & Their Graphs

Chapter 7 – Systems of Equations & Inequalities

Chapter 8 – Exponents & Exponential Functions

Chapter 9 – Polynomials & Factoring

Chatper 10 – Quadratic Equations & Functions

Chapter 11 – Radical Expressions & Equations
