(03/02)  Upcoming Events:  We continue to be busy with various exciting events.  We recently participated in some Olympic activities with our classes as well as school families.  Students should be reminded of the following dates and deadlines.  This Friday, we will be attending Unity’s performance of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.  8th grade money for their class trip to Cedar Point is due to me by March 31.  The MS talent show will occur next Thursday afternoon, March 11.  Research for the math/science event should be finished by March 15 or sometime that week.  The Science and Math Fair is planned for the evening of March 25, with the day of celebration to follow on Friday, March 26.  Spirit Week will occur March 15-19; special days will be announced soon.

(01/12/10) A few advance notices:  More details will follow about each of these events, but please save the dates!   Thursday afternoon, January 28, the MS will be going to a broadway show in downtown GR.  Friday, February 12, is our mathcounts competition at GVSU’s Eberhard Center.  Friday, March 5, we will be viewing a matinee of Unity’s performance of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.  The evening of March 25 will be the MS Science and Math Fair open house, with Friday, March 26, being the day where students attend special sectionals and presentations.

(11/30) Busy Week: We will spend much of tomorrow morning at APS practicing for the Christmas concert, which is tomorrow night!  Wednesday and Thursday, the entire MS will be going to our spiritual retreat.  A few reminders for that:  bring a snack, drink, and sack lunch on Wednesday; bring a snack but lunch will be provided on Thursday.  We are looking forward to a wonderful time of worship and growing closer to our Lord!  On Friday, all middle school students will have opportunity to do some Christmas shopping at the bazaar.

(11/04) 8th Reminders:  We are currently doing the Operation Christmas Child project as a school.  These boxes are due on Friday, November 20.

The 8th graders are also participating with their kindergarten buddies in filling cans with coins which will then be given to Mel Trotter Ministries to provide Thanksgiving meals to those who need them.  These cans are due on Monday, November 16.

Spiritual Emphasis Retreat:  On December 2 and 3, the middle school students and teachers will be going to Covenant Life CRC in Grand Haven for  two days of worship and growing closer to God.  We will leave school at 9:00 each day and return by 3:00.  Our speaker will be Ben VanderKodde from Grace Youth Adventures camp.  On Wednesday, students should bring a lunch and therefore should not order hot lunch for this day; on Thursday, lunch will be provided.  We are looking forward to this retreat!

(11/02)  WAR Jewelry Party:  This Friday, 11/06, Mrs. Seinen and I are hosting a Women at Risk jewelry party here at ACS in the library.  It will be an open house starting right after school for an hour or two, however long people want to shop!  The 8th grade girls received a specific invitation, but anyone who is reading this and is interested in purchasing some jewelry or supporting the ministry of Women at Risk is welcome to come.  For more information about this worthy organization, check out their website at www.warinternational.org.

(09/25)  Auction Theme Baskets:  The entire 8th grade will work together to compile two theme baskets for the auction.  The majority of the girls voted on a Beauty/Spa theme (hair products, nail polish, make-up, lotions, etc.)  The boys went with a Fishing theme.  PLEASE BRING ALL ITEMS TO MRS. MESBERGEN’S ROOM BY OCTOBER 12!
