October

It’s crazy to believe that are are into the month of October already!  Time is quickly flying past us.  With the coming of fall that can only mean one thing… MEAPs.  We will be taking the MEAPs during the weeks of October 12th, 19th, and 26th.  We also have the CEA convention and Grandparents’ Day during that time which will make life seem even more hectic around school!

What else is going on?

6th Grade Social Studies:   We have begun our study of Geography over the past few weeks, which will continue through October and into November.  What exactly does that mean?  The sixth graders are going to be learning how to study different places around the world by looking at the climate, land features, culture, and vegetation.  We begin by taking a wide view of these different ideas while looking at the whole world, and over the next two years they will study each of the different regions of the world more intently.

6th Grade Science:  We are continuing to have a blast with our Energetic Connections unit.  The students are learning a lot about kinetic and potential energy.  We will continue the unit by creating Roller Coasters that display what we have learned about energy so far, and then we will begin to look at other kinds of energy and energy transfers.

7th Grade Science:  The seventh graders are also enjoying the Energetic Connections unit.  They are a little farther than the sixth graders and have already begun learning about some of the different kinds of energy and energy transfers.  This past week, and in the weeks to come, we are studying heat energy and the various ways that heat energy moves from place to place.

8th Grade Science:  The eighth graders are in the middle of an electricity and magnetic unit.  We just finished learning about the two independently, but we are going to begin the month by learning how the two are very intertwined.  Toward the end of the of the month we will be starting a unit on Human Health and Biology.  This unit will take a large portion of the year, as we will be looking at each of the systems of the body indepedently.
