I left my journal out in public for others to draw in…this was tough for me as I was concerned it might get stolen! Imagine that….
I have been so looking forward to washing the page in the washing machine (remember, I take laundry very seriously). I had my husband photo document the placing in the pocket and the dropping of the jeans into the washer. Upon opening the lid of the washer, I suspected immediately that something had gone horribly, horribly wrong: my empty pocket was hanging outside of my jeans! Alas, my washing machine ate the entire page…only a very, very few tiny scraps of soggy paper stuck to a sweatshirt and the jeans. Not even scraps left in the washer. I did manage to salvage a few scraps (mixed in with lint) when I cleaned the dryer filter. It’s in a very sad, very little pile on my desk at home (and I hope my cat doesn’t eat that).
Hi Connie,
Did the cats get it? You have a seriously, playful washing machine!
I had a ton of fun burning a page. I had this weird sensation (ala Book Thief) of book burning, but then I compared it to making old map edges as a kid. Then it was fun!
On Saturday afternoon, when I saw “Make a sudden, destructive, unpredictable movement with the journal,” I tossed the journal on my driveway, got into my car, and ran over it twice. My son had done some chalk drawings on the driveway that morning, so there was some chalk residue on the outside of the book, but other than that, the book was just flattened (with a few pebbles leaving indentations on the cover). I think I’m gonna have to do that one over again (but not in the company of my toddler, who has witnessed me do things to this book that would totally get him into trouble if he were to try!).
I have forgotten to bring my journal with me. Now I find myself at work longing to DESTROY something. I hate working with mean people – why do we have to? I think I will create something really ugly and staple it in to the book as an additional personal note of destruction.
Love the washing machine incident – I hope to try that.
Threw my journal over the cubicles!!!! whoo hoooo!
Oh yes!!! Destroy as an addition…with staples!!! Go for it liz!

Wonder what your toddler is thinking! When do we destroy…and when is it a no?

Yes! I went back to that childhood memory too when burning the page:) Anything left?

I have taken my Wrecking experience to my Art Students at Detention. I had them create their own homemade Wrecking Journals and they are loving it.. Some are having the same issues with making a mess as the rest of us are and some are totally finding the destruction completely liberating! I have some pictures to share, if I can post them!
Angie,
Thanks for the post with the student pics! what a great experience…and what are they saying to you about it? Curious…
…I see from the email I sent that I need to take a moment to check my spelling! Need to focus again on slowing down and noticing what I am doing…take the time to reflect.
